Troubleshoot Google Calendar Sync Error -2147024156 for Microsoft Outlook

Access Google Calendar Sync Properties
dialog to fix the Outlook problem.
After tweaking a few settings on Microsoft Outlook 2007 running on one of my laptop computers, the handy Google Calendar Sync tool stopped working correctly.

On launch, Google Calendar Sync displayed the "Could Not Connect to Outlook Error -2147024156" error message. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Calendar Sync application didn't help and neither did disabling and enabling the necessary COM add-in in the Microsoft Outlook Trust Center.

Being able to automatically synchronize my Outlook calendar on this computer with my online Google Calendar is essential, so I was determined to find a solution to this irritating problem. Fortunately, there's an easy solution to the problem. Note I'm using a 32-bit version of Outlook 2007 on a 64-bit version of Windows 7.

Step-by-Step Guide to Troubleshooting the Google Calendar Sync/Outlook Error -2147024156
  1. Open your Computer folder from the Windows Start menu.
  2. Go to C: > Program Files (x86) > Google > Google Calendar Sync.
  3. Right-click the GoogleCalendarSync.exe file. Ensure you pick the right file; don't right click one of the DLL files in this folder by mistake.
  4. Select Properties from the jump menu, and then click the Compatibility tab in the dialog box.
  5. Click and tick the Run this program as an administrator check box. Click Apply and then OK. Google Calendar Sync should now work perfectly with Microsoft Outlook 2007.

  4. You said Run this program as an administrator. What Operating system did you choose? I chose Windows 7 and Windows XP and it still does not work!

  5. Dr Bea, you don't need to select an OS in the compatibility tab, you just need to tick the Run this program as an administrator check box. Be sure to Click Apply and then OK to save and implement the changes, too.

This solution only works for the exact "-2147024156" error code and I can only verify that it works on Win 7 64-bit with Outlook 2007 32-bit, though other users report success with Outlook 2010.

    1. Ensure you right click the actual GoogleCalendarSync.exe file -- not the similarly named DLL files in the same directory.

Try disabling any other third-party sync software that accesses Outlook.

  8. Some other advice that I had tried said to run Outlook as an administrator. I had done this prior to trying the above fix and found I was still getting the same error. It occurred to remove the administrator from Outlook Compatibility and just run Calendar Sync as an Administrator and it worked...
